My dog had Cancer; March 22, 1989
I woke up at nine o’clock. Alex and I had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed.
Dr. H phoned this morning, he said the test results showed that Kelly has a kidney infection. He said he wants Kelly to start on antibiotics which I could pick up today. This should stop the seizures. The reason why Kelly was having seizures was that he wasn’t getting enough blood to his brain due to the infection in his kidney. It was a relief he didn’t have a tumour, I don’t think I could of handled that right now.
I picked up the medicine after lunch. It has to be given every eight hours so we figure two o’clock p.m., midnight and eight o’clock a.m. Charlie said he would give Kelly his midnight pill.
We ate dinner at five thirty. After dinner we watched tv. Alex went to bed at ten o’clock.
I went to bed as well.

Charlie took Kelly to the vet this morning. Kelly had a seizure last night. It has to be one of the most horrible things to watch since you can’t do anything but wait. Kelly also had one this morning. On the stairs. I had talked to a vet last night, he said he could have epilepsy but couldn’t be sure. This morning I talked to the Animal Hospital, they said they didn’t have an appointment available until this afternoon. I told them Charlie was going to work in the afternoon. They said we could bring Kelly in but we would have to leave him there until someone could look at him.
Dr. H phoned in the afternoon. He said Kelly’s blood count was quite low and he was possibly anemic. Dr. H said Kelly could have a tumour, kidney problem or epilepsy. He wanted to send a blood sample to another lab first. Dr. H wanted to keep him overnight but I said I wanted to take him home. Dr. H said to give him until four o’clock.
I took Alex to Mom and Dad’s while I went to get Kelly. They said the doctor had given Kelly a shot to fight off any infection.

My dog had Cancer; 1989
This blog is taken from a journal I wrote about my son, when he was diagnosed with Leukemia. http://diagnosisleukemia.blogspot.ca The journal started in April of 1987 when my son was first diagnosed. My dog Kelly had his first seizure in March of 1989. At that time the vet thought Kelly had a tumour, kidney trouble or epilepsy.
In December of 1986 we moved to our home, not realizing there were high voltage power lines across the street from our home. In November of 1989 we moved out of that house, feeling it was a health risk for our family.
I will blog only the days that pertain to Kelly having seizures, his medication or visiting the vet. It was a very difficult time for me. I blogged about my son’s treatment of Leukemia and now I feel it is time to blog about Kelly’s treatment for his seizures.
